The Killed Neighbour

This is my story...

It was summer. A hot and dry summer. Nobody was at home in Laurel Street; nobody except Miss Keeler, a young woman who had just moved there, Mr Johnson and Mr Bennett, two old men who hated each other from a very long time.
The crime happened at night: Mr Johnson heard a loud sound coming from the kitchen, so he went to see what was happening there. As soon as he opened the door, he was stabbed several times with a knife. His corpse was found by Miss Keeler the following day.
Five days after there was the trial. The only enquired for that which was called the Laurel Murder was Mr Bennett, suspected for his frequent quarrels with Mr Johnson. He was sitting in the dock when Miss Keeler was called to testify.
“So Miss Keeler, what do you remember of that night?”
“I remember, sir, that I was watching TV when I heard a strange sound coming from the hall. So I exited from my flat and I saw Mr Bennett walking furtively down the stairs. Then I returned into my flat.”
“Are you sure? Can you swear that?”
“I swear it, sir.”
“Thanks Miss Keeler.”
Then it was time for the defence.
“Miss Keeler, we can demonstrate your guilt. You said the false. That night Mr Bennett had a broken leg and he couldn’t walk. Besides, you could only obtain profits with Mr Johnson death: he is your relative, and you would inherit his flat and all his possessions!”
Miss Keeler couldn’t do anything but admit her crime. So Mr Bennett was acquitted, and the woman was jailed for life for murder.

Halloween Night...

It was Halloween night and too many odd people were walking in the street, there were many noises, voices and sounds of all kinds in the air, for this nobody noticed what was happening.

It was a normal house, like many others in that street, it was white painted with a veranda on a little garden surrounded by a wooden,it was, white too. It was unusually quite, none decoration, none light, nothing at all. All this appeared very strange to Ellison that knew very well the odd Miss. who lived in that home, Miss. Meredith.

Every year Miss. Meredith rivaled with Miss. Elisabeth, that lived next door, to create the most terrifying hangings and the most delicious bisquits for the children of the neighbouraugh.

So Ellison become curious and she went into the house to see what was happened. The main door was half-closed, the television was alight, in the kitchen there was a great confusion of little ampullas and unusual powders, on the stove a pot full boiled giving a strange bitter-sweet smell.

Ellison, had about strange situation, went away from the house to call the police, but that was Halloween’s night and at the police telephone exchange belived in a bad joke, so Ellison called Derek, one dear friends of her, because the police didn’t arrive.

When Derek met Ellison; they came into the little white house, in any rooms just when, in the bathroom, they found Miss.Meredith dipped into the tub with cutted veins. This was a dreadful scene, bloody was everywhere, in the water,on the floor and bloody splashes were on the wall.

When the police arrived the two guys were still there in front of the bathroom motionless and terrorised.

The police made all the remarks, noone notice was leaved by Miss. Meredith, none evidence of effraction was on the door. What strange dearth was Miss. Meredith’s one.

It was dawn, at last, and the witch’s night was finished leaving a new mistery after it.

A more different night in Florence...

Here's my story....

At 11.45 p.m. on January 4th the police of Florence was called by an old man, who had seen a young girl dead.

It was a cold night: it was snowing and all the streets were illuminated by many dim streetlamps; I had to write my first report and I was very keyed up.

That night was different from the others, because a poor girl had lost her life without clear motive. She was seen by an old man, who every night went out for a walk with his dog. That night, however, this man had seen a leg stick out from a bush: it was a young girl’s leg.

After the old man’s call, the Florentine police arrived quickly and immediately they started to analyse the poor young body. A group of policemen interrogated the old man: they asked him what he had seen that night and if he had noticed something unusual. He answered that he had seen nobody: he had gone out only for a walk.

Four policemen put themselves to search for something that could help them to understand what had happened a few hours before. Three dogs started to inspect the place: one of them found a bracelet. The police asked the old man if it was his, but it wasn’t. The man was very scared, because he realized he had discovered something dangerous, but a policeman calmed him down and explained him that everything would be solved as soon as possible.

Then other officers came and during the night they analysed a lot of clues that were found in the park. Only after three days, they managed to explain the event: thanks to the young girl’s mobile phone and the bracelet they could arrive at a conclusion. I carefully watched the whole scene: I had never witnessed such a clear and quick solution of a murder before .

The bracelet belonged to one of the young girl’s friend, who was very jealous of her, because she was the ex-girlfriend of her boyfriend. That night she had phoned the young girl over her mobile phone perhaps to meet her, but the other girl became mad with jealousy, because, as she explained to the police, she found a lot of her text messages from the girl in the her boyfriend’s mobile phone. So she killed her.

In the end the other girl was devastated by what had happened : she could not understand why she had lost control of her emotions and how she could have killed another person.

This was a very sad story; a young girl had lost her life because of someone else’s jealousy.

Passions should not make people so blind, because they may become destructive for all mankind!

That's my story...

"There is no pain you are receding. A distant ship smoke on the horizon. You have only coming through in wares" is playing on the radio in the victims' house while the policeman are searching some evidence. The air is strange. The murder is unknown and the death of Mr Duff has uspet his family. He was a correct person, "a great worker", and seemed impossible he was killed, for how he was loved. Later his wife noticed an his particular concern for Dostoevskij (with his anguished questions about the existence of God and evil, the criminality of the offences and consistency of sentences), maybe she could imagine something. The victim before death often returned late in the evening, with trivial excuses. Fortunately there are two witnesses (the neighbours) that saw him entering his home with another person (a woman, they think). This is the last time in which someone has seen him. The investigator suspects that this woman is Mrs Coscialunga, a woman "of easy costumes" who has known Mr Duff from childhood.

In the police station the voice of Mrs Coscialunga seems safe and innocent:

"Yes sir, I remember that my life depend on my answers"

"Well, where were you yesterday at ten o clock p.m.?"

"I was at work, sir"

"The Duffs' neighbours saw someone with Mr Duff entering with him into his home"

"I don't know that, sir"

"Are you married, Mrs Coscialunga?"

"Yes, sir, my husbands' name is Berto"

"Where was he yesterday?"

"I think he was with his friends at the bar for the soccer match"

"And...."

Suddenly a brutal man enters the room screaming "you are a prostitute and you'll pay as him!" taking a hammer from his pocket and running to her with threatening air.

The policeman immediately tries to stop him, but he kills them with

his hammer.

While Mrs Coscialunga is running away to save herself she cries:

"Help me! Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me!".

So the investigator tells at the crazy man:

"I know that you are a good man, put down the hammer, sir"

"Why should I do it?"

"Because your action isn't rational"

"It's true, sir. But what is rational?"

"Rational gets you in prison!"

And the investigator blocks him, solving the case.

One of our Crime Stories...

It was a Dark Night…

“It was a dark night, it was raining, and I knew that it wasn’t a night like the others. Something in me, continued to say, that I hadn’t hope. I saw something that I hadn’t to see, and now he is looking for me…he has almost found me…no one can help me…”

These are the last words, that Iason Pachi, an old man with Greek origins had written in his diary, before to being murdered. But now, if the court will give me the consent, and this assembly will listen to me, with God’s help, I’ll tell you his story:

Mr.Pachi, had a little antique shop on the 20th road to the harbour of St.jhon. He was a quiet man with no preoccupations or enemies who really loved his traditions and origins. He spent all his days in his shop, and he took care of it like if was his house, his Greek. A night, like he wrote, a suspected man, entered his shop and after a long negotiation, sold him a little box with showed a sun, and a ring of glass in the middle of it. After that, the man run out of the shop… and suddenly a big noise broke the silence: Mr.Pachi, went out of the shop and found the corpse of the man full of blood in the middle of the road. In that moment started to rain and Mr.Pachi, come back to his shop. He couldn’t believe at his eyes, but as soon as he turned his face, to see again the corpse, it wasn’t there. Mr.Pachi closed his eyes to tried to calm himself, than decided to go to bed. But that night he couldn’t sleep, the last strange words of that man continued to round in his mind: ”Run to the police and remember “Elias has the truth…the Greek is the key” …

The diary finishes here…than, in that night, Iason Pachi was murdered. But I’m sure that he knew who was the killer, because that suspected man tried to say to him it, with these words:” “Elias has the truth…the Greek is the key” and I know, that Mr.Pachi understood it, because of his traditions. Sounds strange?! I’ve passed a night to think about it, and now I’ve the solutions. First, we have to divide the phrase in two parts, so we’ll have :

1)”Elias has the truth…” and

2)”the Greek is the key…”

Now we have to analyze the first: the sense is not difficult, the unique strange word is “Elias”, but to understand the true sense of it let’s go on to the second part: “the Greek is the key…” I couldn’t understand immediately, but than, I’ve analyzed again the first, above all the word “Elias”…I’ve made lot of internet search about the Greek’s language, and suddenly I’ve understand. The suspected man, knew that a man wanted to kill him, he knew exactly who was him, and he knew he hadn’t hope, so he placed one’s hopes in Mr.Pachi and he tried to say, indirectly, the name of the killer with a confuse phrase, trusting in Mr.Pachi’s sense of patriotism. In fact, if we analyze the word “Elias” and we substitute the letter “a” with the letter “o”, we obtain “Elios”, that means “sun”. And I’m sure that it has some correlation with the little box that the man gave to Iason Pachi and that we have here. Do you remember?! It has a little sun showed on it. Now with the consent of the court, I’ll broke the little ring of glass in the middle of the sun…and with the God’s help…Yes!!! There is a piece of paper: “the killer is Kerry Harrison, the boss of an illegal commerce with the Chinese’s Mafia. I’m j. Lee Harold, a private detective and I’m sorry about the problems I’ve given to you, please say to the police the truth”

Ladies and Gentleman, Court all, now we know the truth and now we know that Mr.Pachi ,an unlucky man dead for an unfair cause, will rest in peace knowing that the justice will win also for him.

a special guest...for a crime story!

One of your school mates has written the following "crime story".
Waiting for your comments....

OWiNG TO LOVE

The house was old and while I was looking at it, the weather changed …

There was thunders and dense rain … But I remembered, I knew the truth.
Everything seemed terrifying during a dark evening when she went to the house after her work.

She was a pretty young girl, she was sixteen and she was sweet, calm and gracious. She was in love … her heart belonged to Jack, the greengrocer’s son, they had fallen in love. The relationship was so beautiful, so childlike, but the faith reserved them a bad end.

My daughter was poor but she was so beautiful that two weeks later, she married Lord Chester. My wife and I were proud about this marriage, because this event permitted us good food and a comfortable bed.

Our daughter didn’t to marry him … She wanted to go away with Jack because she loved him ……

After a week at the process there were a lot of people and we were with Jack and Lord Chester. At the beginning the Court asked Lord Chester where he was the evening when she was killed …

There were four witnesses that declared that the Lord was in a restaurant with them.

Immediately the Court asked me and my wife the same question and my wife was pale, she was crying …

I stood up and I told …

After my words, my wife shook nervously … So, the police put me in prison and there, I stayed for twenty long years without any visit.

But I knew … Those evenings I listened at my daughter’s screams …

I remembered that my wife’s parents forced her to married me. I loved her, but she didn’t. My wife didn’t want the same luck for her daughter.

So, she killed her …

She killed my only daughter and I took the blame for my wife …!

I loved her, now… I didn’t have anything

something about the first english theatres

During our last lesson on English Literature we discussed about the origin of the theatre in England, the first form of Medieval Drama as the Miracle plays that, from the 10th to the 16th century, were mainly performed on movable stage wagons called pageants.

Here's one illustration:

Our Xmas story!

At Christmas the class had to read the story "The Case for the Defence" by Graham Greene, one of the most widely read English novelist and short story writer of the 20th-century who was born in 1904 and died in 1991.

Some students have imagined to be reporters for the school's magazine and have written their own articles.
One of them is Francesco Viliani

A STRANGE CASE, A STRANGE MURDER

One dead, four witnesses and a killer: these are the fundamental elements that go around this strange case. It was a long trial that finished with no sentences or guilty.

In Northwood Street it was found a corpse of a woman, but also after a long questioning, the suspected killer was acquitted for lack of evidence. Just a waste of time!!!

But the most strange thing is that at the end of the trial, the suspected man had been pushed onto the street while a bus was passing by, and he died.

Justice?! Destiny?! One thing is sure: all the four witnesses will not sleep easy.
